Good not greatDefinitely a good workout. LOADS of sun salutations help you work up heat. Poses are held for an average amount of time (headstand and shoulder stand are held for a decent amount of time). As you are in the poses, the voice-over gives information about the pose and what it does for the body (externally and internally), which was nice. Moved at a good pace.
My complaints are this. Kind of boring. Obviously, yoga is supposed to be calming but this, to me, was missing something. I felt bored. Maybe it was the woman's voice, which was very monotone-esque. Also, I know the poses fairly well, yet I still need guidance on how to get into them properly, to maintain alignment and avoid hurting myself. There was no such guidance on this video. The instructors just quickly threw themselves into the poses and it was up to the viewer to attempt to mirror them as best they could without verbal guidance on how to properly align the body.
In summary. Good workout. Good yoga. Not entirely sure if I would do it again.
Very solid yoga workoutI'm fairly new to home yoga, so I wasn't sure what to expect from this workout. Having done yoga in the past, this was a fairly easy workout to adapt to, in terms of cuing, this is probably more suited to an intermediate level yogi. That said, it's a solid workout and while it didn't give me that "burn" that I look for in a "power" yoga type workout, I do find this to be very thorough. The only drawback in this (which is oddly also a positive) is that there isn't music in the workout, which is typically my preference. On certain days, that makes this DVD feel bland when I want the spirit of music to enhance/increase energy. On other days, when I want a good workout, but need to incorporate more tranquility, the lack of music actually makes that possible and allows me to focus more on my thoughts, movements and breath without the distraction of additional noise. I find the Tracey's voice and cuing to be very calming.
There's no huge surprises in this program. It takes you through a series of sun salutations (which do build some nice heat and progress to a slightly faster pace), standing poses incorporating some balance work. Then she takes you down to floorwork, headstands, etc. (which I typically skip as I prefer more standing type poses). This is a tape that I can see doing quite often on days when I need the internal quiet time yet still yearn for a thorough workout. I was hoping based on reviews that this might provide that blissful "sweat" factor (which it did not for me personally), however this is a very solid yoga workout that will definitely incorporate your entire body from head to toe.
OK - not the best, not the worst - TONS of sun salute series and about 75 minutes longYou do about 20 sun salute series in the beginning which gets a little old. About 75 minutes in length which is too long for me to do more than once a week - need about 40 minutes. Gets your arms burning, though!
Great practice to do at home! The Total Yoga practice sequence is very even and allows enough time to get into the poses. The instructions are clear and includes modified poses for all levels of practitioners. It is a great practice for people who practice yoga regularly but don't always have time to go to a class.
A great flow!I am really happy I finally got this video. The flow is fast paced, the asanas move into each other effortlessly, there are a lot of vinyasas as an Ashtanga yoga practice should be. It will set your heart pumping and you'll feel marvelous afterwards. Recommended!
